Place pieces and claim space
Each of 1–6 players has 22 pieces from the selected Triangular or Polyabolo set. Pieces cannot overlap or extend beyond the board's playable tiles. Your first piece must cover an unoccupied starting tile while one remains. Later pieces must share a vertex with your own color, but no unit edge. Different colors may share edges.
Placement controls
- Select board tiles, then click a highlighted matching piece in the tray.
- Select a piece in the tray, rotate or flip it using the circle controls if needed, then hover over a target tile to preview the placement and click to place it. Touch and pen users can tap the target tile.
- On 2D boards, select a piece, transform it if needed, then drag it from the tray or its control circle onto the board and release it at a valid position.
Hexagon, Infinite Hexagon, Square, and Torus allow all three methods. Icosahedron, Tetrahedron, Octahedron, Cube, and Bipyramid allow methods 1 and 2; piece dragging is disabled. Rotating a 3D board remains a separate view control. The same methods apply in waiting-room practice and in the Admin Playground Blokus tab for the corresponding 2D or 3D board.
For solo play, choose 1 Human player and 0 Bots. You keep taking turns without a color-swap phase. A pass ends the game, as do running out of legal moves, timing out, or resigning. Registered solo games are recorded with zero ELO change; guest games remain unrated.
Players and colors
Starting identities are randomly assigned. In the waiting room, click your color box to choose one of six colors or Random (the dice). An available color is claimed immediately; choosing another human’s color offers a swap they can accept or decline. A new offer replaces your previous outgoing offer. The host can choose bot colors and send swap offers to humans on behalf of bots. Bots automatically accept swap offers, immediately exchanging their color choice with yours (including Random). At game start, Random choices receive distinct remaining colors. Players keep their assigned colors throughout the game. Turns follow the starting player order.
Clocks and completion
Time control gives each identity a time bank and an increment after every placement or pass. A timeout or resignation ends your active play; your pieces remain. Players with no legal move are skipped. The game ends when no player can place a piece or all eligible colors pass consecutively.
Scores and ELO
Every placed unit triangle scores one point. Highest score wins, with ties sharing rank. Scores belong to the final controlling identities. Rated games use Spendii’s score-gap ELO method: each player’s gap from the highest score is divided by all gaps, with equal shares if all scores tie. Expected shares depend on ELO; the adjustment uses the same sign, K factor, rating floor, bot redistribution and rounding as Spendii. Bots keep their fixed rating. Guest games are unrated.
Rooms
Choose Time control, Human players, Bots, and Joining. Joining supports Open, Host approval, and a four-digit passcode. Rooms are public to view. Guests can play solo or complete games against bots, but cannot join remote rooms. Guest-created rooms cannot be joined remotely. Ready up after joining; the host starts once all human slots are filled and ready. Lobby navigation keeps your seat, while Resign ends participation and Exit removes you from a waiting room or resigns you from an active game.
